Pressbook History:
Vintage movie pressbooks were promotional booklets produced by film studios to equip theater owners with marketing tools for upcoming film releases. These pressbooks contained advertising layouts, poster ordering options, plot summaries, cast bios, suggested publicity stunts, and merchandising tie-ins—everything needed to generate local buzz and maximize ticket sales. Beyond their practical purpose, many pressbooks featured stunning, original cover art unique to their era, making them highly desirable to collectors of classic film memorabilia. The combination of eye-catching design and behind-the-scenes promotional strategy offers a tangible connection to Hollywood’s golden age and the way films were once sold to the public. Today original movie Pressbooks are Highly desirable by collectors. 

This particularly Rare 1939 Pressbook for "Son of Frankenstein" is one of the most impressive with stunning artwork and extraordinary large 11.5x17.5" when opened.
The original Pressbook shows stunning artwork and graphics with the spectacular cover art of Basil Rathbone depicting the Monster and Ygor in the mad doctor's reflector.  This is the same artwork that adorned the most desirable one sheet style B that sold for $52,000 in November 2022. 

The film remains a classic from Universal's horror library and original paper like posters, heralds and press books remain very hard to find and are highly desirable.   A half sheet for this title sold in November 2020 for $180,000.    Another Pressbook sold in April 2018 for over $3100 in similar condition to this one. . 

SIZE:  Unfolded - 11.5" X 17.5"

Condition:  An original unrestored pressbook with good color and an overall very presentable appearance. It has fold wear, creases, tears, cuts, tape stains, page separation, and minor stains.  The cuts are on one page only.  Page 3/4 missing.  * But who actually cares much about the inside?  Its the Stunning Cover that Collectors love!

Note:  The diagonal line on the cover is identical on all of the few of these that have appeared on the market over the past 20 years.  Hence,  it is a machine fold used for shipping to movie theater owners.

After Carl Laemmle sold Universal Studios, it was the new owners' intention to make higher quality films and stay away from what they felt were disreputable horror movies. But with the public clamoring for more of the Monster from the Frankenstein series, the new owners caved into the demands and created Son of Frankenstein. The studio heads went all-in as they cast Basil Rathbone as the original creator's son Wolf von Frankenstein, placed Bela Lugosi into one of his best roles ever, as the evil lab assistant Ygor, and had Boris Karloff reprise his role of the Monster for the last time and bring an instant sympathy to the character despite heavy makeup and limited dialog.. 

The original Pressbook shows stunning artwork and graphics with the spectacular color cover art of Basil Rathbone depicting the Monster and Ygor in the mad doctor's reflector.  This is the same artwork that adorned the most desirable one sheet style B that sold for $52,000 in November 2022. 

The pressbook offered here has a full-color cover which almost makes it a poster in its own right, and it shows spine and fold wear with slight fold separations, minor surface wear on the covers. All of the pages in the pressbook are loose
