ElectraSyn Electrode Starter Kit, Kit of 8 electrodes, 12 pcs. each (glassy carbon 2 pcs.)
The ElectraSyn Electrode Starter Kit includes the most common electrodes for exploring various electrochemical reactions. The selection of the electrodes is based on whether the desired reaction is an oxidation or a reduction. Additional electrodes to further optimize the reactions are available as accessories. Two strategies for using the electrodes are presented below as examples:

Case 1 – Carbon-based electrode material:
Carbon-based materials are extremely useful for the synthesis of C-C and C-N bonding reactions. The Graphite SK-50 electrodes included in the starter kit are low-cost carbon electrodes that provides rudimentary properties of a carbon-based material. The RVC electrodes (Reticulated Vitreous Carbon) are carbon foam electrodes with a larger surface area that helps improve electron efficiency. The Glassy carbon electrodes are metal-free carbon electrodes with a uniform surface area.
Complementing the electrodes in the starter kit are the electrodes made of boron-doped diamond (BDD), a metal-free carbon material with higher durability suitable for use under drastic reaction conditions. Boron-doped diamond electrodes are available separately as accessory (Ident-No.: 0040002856).

Case 2 – Platinum:
Platinum is useful for the formation of C-C bonds. It is used as a non-sacrificial anode and as cathode that facilitates proton reduction. Platinum electrodes are not included in the Electrode Starter Kit and are only available separately as accessories.
IKA offers two types of platinum electrodes: Platinum Foil, Set of 2 (Ident-No.: 0040005015) is recommended for more drastic conditions; Platinum plated on ceramics (Ident No.: 0040006753) is recommended for milder conditions.
