The book: Rare and attractive Victorian edition of -- Sylvester Sound the Somnambulist (first published in 1844), a comic tale about a persistent sleepwalker, who unknowingly performs many exploits in this state. 

The author: Henry Cockton (7 December 1807 – 26 June 1853) was an English novelist, remembered primarily for The Life and Adventures of Valentine Vox, the Ventriloquist (1839–40).
