A delicate antique pearl and diamond cluster ring, circa 1900. This ring is stamped with hallmarks for Paris and would make the most beautiful engagement ring. The central pearl set in a closed-back mount, surrounded by a sea of rose cut diamonds in milgraine platinum-topped gold settings. The triangular facets of rose cuts were very popular during the Georgian and Victorian periods as they glistened more beautifully in candlelight than any other cut. The rose cut diamonds are all in open-backed settings, allowing light to pass through the stones as well as making it an easy ring to clean! The underside of the bezel features an open gallery with crescent motifs, which are attached to pinched shoulders, typical of the period. The 18K gold band is of a D-shaped cross-section and tapers towards the back.
UK size H 1/2, US size 4
The ring weighs 2.73 grams, and carries a French ‘tête d’aigle’ (eagle head) control mark for a fineness of 18K gold. The circular bezel measures 11mm across, the rose cuts 2mm in diameter and the central pearl measuring 6mm in diameter.
