A fantastic antique French nielloed silver albert bracelet dating to the late 19th century. Originally used as a pocket watch chain hung from a gentleman’s waist coat, this gorgeous bracelet is typical of French chains with its oversized spring clasp and large oval links. What makes this piece so unusual is the incredibly intricate niello work decorating the entirety bracelet. The links are feature a dotted honeycomb pattern whilst the dog clip clasp and some of the smaller links display a horizontal pattern. Niello is a black mixture of copper, silver, and lead sulphides, used as an inlay on engraved or etched metal. It is a complex and ancient method and very striking as a result.
The bracelet measures 25.5cm in length, which suits larger wrists, although links can easily be removed to make the bracelet fit to your desired length. The oval links measure 1.8cm x 1cm, whilst the spring clasp has a diameter of 2.3cm.
